Copywriter

We are seeking a Copywriter who is passionate about strategic marketing and thrives in a fast-paced, results-oriented atmosphere.

Let’s talk about the role.

The Copywriter will lead the development of concepts and create compelling and innovative narratives and campaign messaging across a wide variety of marketing solutions including print, TV, radio, digital campaigns and website copy. In addition, the Copywriter will support business development and agency marketing as an integral part of new business proposals and presentations.

The successful candidate will be comfortable and confident in their writing, and illustrate the ability to match copy style with marketing needs. This individual must have a keen eye for detail and a drive to deliver the smartest and most effective copy.

This role requires complete self-assurance, as the Copywriter is in charge of influencing consumers by delivering a clear message, as well as using their initiative to seek out new trends and effectively incorporate them into campaigns. Working alongside art directors, developers, designers and client services, this person will be a team player and self-sufficient multi-tasker, full of original approaches and innovative ideas.

Responsible for the overall execution of 116 & West’s writing solutions, the Copywriter interfaces between the client services, digital and creative departments. The individual who fills this position must be self-motivated and exemplify strong leadership qualities as well as fit into the agency’s established culture that promotes autonomy with results.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • writing copy that is forward-thinking and in-line with current marketing strategy and trends
  • demonstrating a clear understanding of campaign objectives and developing strategies to achieve identified goals
  • offering creative concepts and encouraging collaboration among the team
  • being a key participant in development of new business proposals and presentations
  • editing all copy generated by team members and providing feedback when necessary
  • managing multiple projects, with the ability to switch from one to the other seamlessly
  • meeting deadlines and staying within budget constraints
  • encouraging clients to adopt fresh, exciting ideas by delivering compelling copy to support concepts
  • maintaining external professional relationships with vendors and partners
  • facilitating and promoting agency initiatives and values
  • accurately tracking all work to the appropriate job number

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism or other related field
  • more important than the Copywriter’s education, is a foundation of hands-on, applicable experience; 3+ years related experience in an in-house copywriting department or agency setting is preferred

The successful candidate will:

  • have a proven track record as a writer with a deep understanding of the ways copy helps clients achieve their goals.
  • have an intimate understanding of copy best practices
  • brainstorm branding campaigns for existing and prospective clients and agency self-promotion
  • continually learn client preferences and brand guidelines
  • be familiar with SEO best practices and be able to write SEO-focused content when needed
  • have ability to adapt to different writing styles
  • proofread and spell check each project
  • be self-motivated with a track record of success managing multiple projects and deadlines
  • collaborate with account leads and follow creative request/brief
  • work closely with agency and client teams on all assignments
  • be a creative thinker, with natural wordsmith skills and the ability to brainstorm original ideas and copy on a regular basis in a fast-paced agency
  • excel in a stressful environment and be able to juggle multiple projects at once to meet tight daily deadlines

Additional required skills:

  • excellent communication and persuasion skills
  • a strong understanding of brand development and multichannel marketing concepts
  • in-depth knowledge of website and digital marketing copywriting best practices

  • Full-time, salary dependent on experience
